DSECT Webinar - Drug Regulation in Canada

This session will review aspects of the Canadian Drug Regulatory System. It will review the processes in place at Health Canada for seeking approval to use a drug in Canada. This includes steps in the pre-market drug approval process, alternate pathways for approval (e.g. for orphan drugs), and the special access program. It will also touch on post-market surveillance activities at Health Canada. In addition, this session will highlight specific transformative efforts underway at Health Canada such as alignment of Health Technology Assessment activities related to pre-market drug submissions and consideration of the inclusion of real world data into pre-market submissions.

Placebos are inert substances or sham procedures designed to appear identical to the active substance or procedure but without known therapeutic effect. Placebo/nocebo Response is defined as the psychophysiologic effect associated with placebos. Their use in clinical practice has been highly controversial yet research clearly proves a strongly beneficial effect for many symptoms.
